About the Author
Jeff Madura is Emeritus Professor of Finance at Florida Atlantic University. The recipient of multiple awards for excellence in teaching and research, Dr Madura has written several successful finance textbooks. His research on financial markets and institutions has been published in numerous journals, including Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis; Journal of Money, Credit and Banking; Financial Management; Journal of Financial Research; and Financial Review. Dr Madura has served as a consultant for international banks, securities firms and other multinational corporations. In addition, he is a former director of the Eastern Finance Association and a former director and president of the Southern Finance Association. He earned his BS and MA from Northern Illinois University and his DBA from Florida State University.

and I must say I am pretty disappointed in this book

I thought I would write my review after completing the course, and I must say I am pretty disappointed in this book. Concepts were explained decently enough, but this book is essentially a re-hash of the previous version, which is a re-hash of that book's previous version. Every few years this book is republished with the same information and same problems, with only the company names changing. I don't understand how a company can justify a $300 price when the information in the book is exactly the same as 3 and 4 versions ago.
I would also not recommend this book to instructors. The problems in the chapters have been around so long that detailed answers can be found anywhere on the internet.

God awful, confusing and poorly written; Good for starting a barbeque, not much else.

I agree with the other bad reviews here. Unfortunately, my school has decided to use this publisher for all their finance classes, and the problems are the same throughout the series. They are disorganized and confusing, and poorly laid out. Also, and most importantly because it's a big problem; many of the explanations are vague, and seem to skip steps in their attempt to explain the concepts. It's unfortunate, but I actually bought a second textbook from another finance class that's written better, and use the internet to better explain the concepts then only use this to do the homework, and throw at the walls in frustration. I know it's not me, because when I read the concept in a competently laid out fashion, it makes sense. Also, the questions from the book that are used on the exams are also equally vague, so watch out because you will most likely have a problem there as well. I would go so far as to say that--unless all of your finance classes use this book and you have no choice--to avoid any class that uses it as a primary text. Run for your life, this book sucks.

I'm uncertain why our professor picked this book. It is disorganized and does not sufficiently explain the ideas. For instance, swaps are introduced in a tiny paragraph in the first few chapters. You're left trying to figure out what they are until you get to chapter 7 and they are defined. Why introduce something if you're not going to talk about it sufficiently? Our professor certainly put it on the test. If I have to go to youtube to get an explanation of something, your book is not effectively written.
