Victorians liked to refer to England as 'a Christian country'. But what did this mean at the level of everyday life? The book begins with a social portrait of each of the characteristic forms of religion that flourished in Victorian England, including Anglican, Dissenters, Catholics, Jews, Secularists and the indifferent. It goes on to analyse, making extensive use of oral history, the pervasive and many-sided influence of Christianity before considering the limits of this influence. The forms of Christianity most typical of this time are then considered, with special emphasis on Evangelism at home and abroad and differences between male and female religiosity. Finally, there is an extended discussion on the religious crises of the later Victorian and Edwardian period.

but am still happy that I took the course on world religion

I was required to take a class on religion as a prerequisite for a nursing program I applied to. I ended up choosing a different program, but am still happy that I took the course on world religion. The course, and this book especially, opened my eyes about many of the world's religions. It made me a more open-minded person, and taught me a lot about religion and culture. The lessons I learned from this book and class are priceless. I truly think the world would be a better place if everyone read this book and developed a bigger level of understanding about different faith backgrounds.

This book will fall apart just looking at it.

Paperback binding looks like it was glued by a preschooler. (Previous repair?) Cover and pages are loose, creased, slight tearing around all edges, dog ears on every corner, markings, found post it's still sticking out of the sides of the book!!!! This book should not have been rented out again. It should have been replaced with a stronger book.

This is a very responsible and reliable book on the subject of being an immigrant written by a specialist who has actually witnessed the situation of those arriving in a country with nothing to lose and exposed to many perils in an unknown land. Exactly what I needed

I found this book to be exactly the thing I needed for what I was looking for. Since I am an american I don't know the first place to look on how to give advise on immigration, but my friends parents were recently coming to stay from Albania and I needed to know to offer advice on what they should do when they considered turning their 6 month visa into a new way of life. I think this book hit all the points on the head because for many people they have to take some things into consideration that we don't think about when we already live in America. This is especially sensitive when older people are considering this change because it isn't so easy for the older people who are giving up their entire lives to join us. This book gives contact resources, and practical advise on paying taxes, getting a job, and it has an entire chapter dedicated to the person who dreams of being an entrepreneur. This is especially important because the people who have dreams of accomplishing good things and loving families are exactly the kind of people we want in America. iI will make the reader a welcome person..

A certified breeder of Louisiana Catahoula Leopard dogs since 1980, Don Abney learned his craft from old-time breeder Vernon Traxler, and today is one of America’s top Catahoula breeders. He has produced over 24 Champions and 6 Grand Champions.

Don is certified by the DEA as a Researcher in the field of Canine Training, and in the Criminal District Courts of New Orleans as an Expert Witness in the fields of canine training and tracking. His Catahoulas have been certified in Search and Rescue, and in Narcotics detection, and commissioned by law enforcement as a Canine Deputy.

The author of several books on dogs and dog training (www.donabney.com), Don’s love for dogs dates back to his childhood introduction to a wild dog.

Mostly about how to Breed?!

I adopted a rescue, whom I am pretty sure is a Catahoula. I was told she was a 'Australian shepherd/mixed breed," yet she meets all the criteria and descriptions of a Catahoula. She will never have puppies, however, because rescued dogs are always required to be fixed/neutered. This book is almost entirely about breeding these relatively obscure dogs. I had never heard a Catahoula before she came into my life. When I tell others that I have a Catahoula, 95% of people have never heard of this breed. That's why I bought the book! But I should also point out that the seller must have sent it book rate or something, because it took over a month to arrive at my doorstep. Having just realized she is not a Aussie mix, I was greatly anticipating the arrival of this book, so what a let down that the seller was so misery in a unprofessional and unexpected way ... but then the content was "N/A" for any rescued Catahoula leopard dogs! I gave the book away.

great debut short story

First & foremost I have to say I am not the biggest fan of short stories but this one is well worth the small price of $1.99.
Adam is a cop who tragically lost his parents leaving him to look after his younger sister Jenny, and has never been in love before.
Amanda a sweet caring nurse who believes valentines day is just a manufactured holiday for the masses, she has never had anyone to share it or any other holiday with.
This is a fast paced short story with a lot of schmexy thrown in & Melanie managed to bring it altogether in the best way possible.
I'm really looking fwd to Jenny & Jake's book releasing summer 2014, I am hoping it will be a bit longer with a slower build up as I think there could be a lot in that storyline to build on & hopefully we hear a bit more from Adam & Amanda.
